Châtel is a traditional French Alpine village which is part of the massive Les Portes du Soleil ski circuit.
The resort is made up of modern châlet style hotels and apartments mixed in with some old farms where cattle still live in the winter with an excellent selection of bars and restaurants.
Our apartment is ski in, ski out, so to get to the lift on skis takes literally only a few seconds (ski-in is a red run) and is only 75m from the Super-Châtel Ski Lift, which provides access to the whole Portes du Soleil ski area.
The Portes du Soleil is one of the largest ski areas in the world, and consists of
- 650km of slopes
- 279 marked pistes
- 9 snow parks
- Over 1000 ski instructors
- Situated in the Rhone Alps, it encompasses 12 resorts straddling France and Switzerland. The largest resorts are Châtel, Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets.
Skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels are well catered for. Snowboarders will love the great selection of snow parks with half-pipes and hand rails, located in many of the area’s resorts.
Situated only 1 ½ hours from Geneva, the Portes du Soleil is an excellent choice for those looking to hit the Alps. If you don’t want to hire a car (there are two underground parking spaces at the apartment). There are also 2 main companies that provide minibus transfers to and from Geneva Airport to Châtel:
